We have had a busy start to P5, getting back into the swing of daily routines and learning.
In our numeracy we have had a focus on addition and subtraction using formal methods and setting them out correctly. Everyone has really worked hard on this! In our problem solving we had been looking at using guess and check/trial and error and creating grids to help us solve problems.
In our writing we looked at a warning story called Kassim and the Greedy Dragon, we looked at the structure of this and then used our own ideas to write our own warning stories.
We had a STEM challenge to see who could make the tallest tower out of some A4 paper and Sellotape. The winner was a whopping 78cm! We had to think about making a solid and wide base to start with and came up with some very interesting designs, some more successful than others!
We choose to have a look at the Titanic for our IDL this term and have been learning lots about that. We had great fun learning about buoyancy and designing our own boat hulls out of foil. We had a competition to see which boat could take the most weight before sinking.
This week, as part of the Book and Arts Festival, we had a visit from Toad who talked to us about Storm’s arrival on Sunday and helped us make sea creature masks for this. We looked at lots of models of different sea creatures and then used them to create our own fab sea creature masks.
